Gastropub is a combination of two words – gastronomy and pub – it promotes itself as a good restaurant in addition to being a pub. Good wine & beer is served alongside fantastic but casual dishes, locally sourced, well presented but not fussy.
Gastropubs are a new trend that merges gourmet food with a relaxed pub environment. The word gastropub comes from the words gastronomy and pub and Clayhills promotes itself as a good restaurant in Tallinn in addition to being a pub.
Gastropubs originally came from the UK and Clayhills is the first of its kind in Estonia. Our menu takes inspiration from British, European and local Estonian traditions, and uses ingredients that are seasonal and locally sourced. In the best rules of gastropubs, the menu is written on a giant blackboard and every day we serve fresh fish from the local market along with the best of Estonian pork, lamp and beef and under the guidance of our executive chef Zvaonekwa Chamunokara our menu changes seasonally, though such all-time customers’ favourites as hand-made pork and apple sausages and the Clayhills gourmet burger are always on the menu.
Beer connoisseurs won’t be disappointed either, there is a big selection of craft, local and international beers on the menu. Wine regions are widely represented and wines are hand picked to complement the food. Clayhills is about enjoying good food, beer and wine in a relaxed cosy atmosphere indoors or on our comfortable outdoor terrace on those warm summer days or nights.
Live music is a strong part of our identity. Clayhills has live music each week from Thursday to Sunday nights. The live music features both local and international artists that cover a variety of styles: from Jazz and Soul to Pop and Latin. On weekends, the live music begins after dinner and there is no better place to relax and have fun and the entrance is free.
The name “Clayhills” comes from Thomas Clayhills who originated from Scotland and whose company “Thomas Clayhills & Son” bought our building in 1729 and opened a merchant store here. The Clayhills were a very powerful and successful merchant family and their company is possibly the oldest trading company in the history of Estonia, trading for more than 300 years.
To sum it all up, Clayhills gastropub is a contemporary blend of hospitality, good food and beverage married into a setting of a medieval merchant building. See you soon at Clayhills!
